A CR-1 or IR-1 spouse visa allows the foreign spouse of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to live permanently in the United States.

A CR-1 visa is issued to spouses who have been married for less than two years at the time they enter the United States.
An IR-1 visa is issued when the marriage is more than two years old at the time permanent residency is granted (immediate relative)

To apply for a IR-1 or CR-1 visa, you’ll need to go through consular processing, which means you’ll need to apply and interview at your local U.S. Embassy or consulate.
